Improving Your Golf Game

August 9th, 2010 — 2:14pm

Playing a game of golf can be an interesting experience. Depending on your level of skill at the sport, it can be a relaxing time – but for others it can be stressful and even demoralizing because they aren’t able to live up to the standards they have set for themselves. Why not improve your game on the course and show you’ve got what it takes? All it takes is a little practice. There are many golf swing aids and golf training aids available on the market that are sure to get you on the right track.

Before you know it you’ll be matching par in no time whatsoever. A simple yet effective way to practice playing golf is to get a standard putting green. These are available at a low price and most are portable. You can practice getting the ball into the hole with ease in any environment, from your office to your home. If you’re looking for something a bit more sophisticated, try a digitally advanced program that simulates a golf course – with a net that catches the balls as you practice your drive.

There are also training aids that attach to your arms – this allows you to perfectly match up your arm movement with your swing in order to achieve the best velocity possible. Another thing that is important is the material that you purchase. Don’t buy just any golf club – find one that feels comfortable and you are able to swing. Also make sure it is easy to transport. Many golf professionals particularly enjoy traveling in hybrid cars such as the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight, both of which are eco-friendly and have ample room for storing golf equipment. It has been said that the cars can fit up to seven golf bags in the backseat due to the way they are shaped. Don’t let the course intimidate you anymore.

Improve your golf game and start practicing and you’re sure to improve in no time. Next time you step out on the course feel confident and capable, and hit the ball like you’ve never hit before.

Improving Your Golf Game Using Hybrid Golf Clubs

July 5th, 2010 — 11:38am

A hybrid club is a term used to describe a club that is made out of wood and metal components. They also have features within the design that allows assist in a stronger swing and reduces missing the ball. One of the design features is that the face of the club is flat, like an iron, but made out of wood. Another feature is that the club is made of wood, but the weight is distributed evenly throughout the whole club, like an iron club, rather than the front as in most wood clubs. One other characteristic of the hybrid is that it is made of wood, but has the length of an iron.

McDowell Wins US Open

June 21st, 2010 — 3:37pm

Graeme McDowell held off a star studded field at Pebble Beach golf course to win his first major championship and Europe’s first US Open victory since 1970.

Under absolutely punishing major championship conditions McDowell was able to navigate the tricky layout with the help of his hybrid golf clubs. While others were blasting it drivers and three-woods McDowell was steady with his hybrid. Sacrificing distance for accuracy, which is always at a premium when playing in any major championship. This may be an overlooked point when reviewing the tournament and several times down the stretch he was able to put the ball in play where his better known competitors were not.

His round was nothing flashy just the plain old rock solid golf you expect from a steady player.

His 3 over par 74 was the highest Sunday winning score in several years, but others also struggled and could not make a charge. Tiger woods was well positioned for a Sunday charge but faltered. Phil Mickelson has another US Open disappointment on his hands as he couldn’t emerge from the pack either. And the golfer with the best shot to catch McDowell, Ernie Els, missed several short putts on the back nine.

Just very proud of myself the way I handled myself this week,” McDowell said. He has every right to be proud. Many golfers, like his playing partner for the weekend Dustin Johnson, wilt under the pressure of major championship golf. Johnson started the day at six under par but shot an 11 over 82 to fall out of contention. This was Johnson’s first foray into championship contention though and much is expected of his supreme talent in the future.

Gregory Havret, the 391st ranked golfer in the world was also a surprise in this championship. The frenchman also played steady golf on Sunday to put himself in contention. He was unable to make a birdie on the last hole, a par 5, after hitting into a greenside bunker in 2 and finished one stroke behind McDowell at one over par.

McDowell now adds his name to a list of distinguished Pebble Beach US Open champions which include: Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite, and Tiger Woods.

McDowell should have some great golf tips for his competitors in the future. Just keep the ball in play and drive it into the fairway. A boring way to play the game, but one that leads to victory.

How to Overcome Awkward Golf

June 18th, 2010 — 4:18pm

Quick tips from Golf Charlotte

Sometimes on the golf course you have a shot that is so awkward you wonder how on earth you can stay balanced just so you can hit the ball. Didn’t plan on that but there are ways to handle these kinds of shots.

There two things to remember when trying to make an awkward shot.

  • One-balance and
  • Two – don’t move your head.

A third thing is to imagine the line where your club will travel.

Before you take your shot imagine a place where the clubhead will move the greatest distance. It’s worth reminding yourself that the clubhead will hit the ball and stay in contact with it for a few inches. This is where practice swings come in very handy. You will get to practice keeping your feet stable getting a better balance.

It’s important to remember not to shift your weight from one leg to the other. Before you swing get a sense of your balance. If you feel a little off, shift your position until you feel more balanced. You want to avoid having any jerking motion in your swing. Take a breath, relax your muscles, and calm your mind.

You must be able to see the ball from the beginning of your swing until the club hits the ball. Keep your gaze steady so that hitting the ball will not be a challenge.

Remember to keep your eyes on the ball until the club meets it. If you can only do one thing during this shot it should be to keep your eyes on the ball.

Here’s a tip-  during high winds keep your feet closer together. The trick to hitting into the wind is to simply hit the ball as you normally would.

Strange angles and weird shots are part of the game. There is always a best practice for handling a difficult shot. Meeting challenges will build your confidence and lower your score.

When in Charlotte meet the challenges of golf at Springfield.

Golfer’s Knee is Common

May 10th, 2010 — 7:56pm

As golfers, we have taken on fitness as a high priority. We now know that wellness activities are important.

Health experts, nutritionists, trainers and coaches all agree and advise us to stay active, do some aerobic exercise 3 times a week and pay attention to the diet. Occasionally our active sports activities can lead to a painful pull or sprain.

The knees are one of the worst culprits. We twist and wrench and torque them in so many ways that we’re just not bio-mechanically made to move.

Golfers are frequently seen by orthopedists for complaints which can turn out to be a meniscus tear, osteoarthritis, or tendinitis.

Sometimes when that happens and you’ve confirmed that nothing is torn or broken a stabilizing knee brace can get you back in the game quicker.

Be advised that if shortly after injury, you’re experiencing lateral movement or side to side instability, then it’s time to see a physical therapist, your primary care physician, or orthopedist. What might initially feel like a simple sprain, could have been worse than you thought.

When you sprain or wrench a major joint like the knee, swelling occurs around the joint to stabilize it and restrict movement. We all know this, right? Problem is, that swelling, which is nature’s design to help us, hurts.

A stabilizing knee brace which slips over the knee or a type made of neoprene rubber does just what nature and your body are calling for naturally. The brace provides external support while comfortably restricting lateral movement and speeding the healing process.

Minor sprains, pulls or over use irritation injuries may call for less structural support, providing more elasticity. If it’s minor, hopefully you’ll require a knee elastic brace for a shorter duration and be back on the field or out on the trail quicker.

If your injury is minor, due to overuse and the idea that a little extra support around your knee might feel pretty good, look at the variety of stabilizing and elastic knee braces which are widely available.

Health and well being today requires that we take care of small complaints before they grow larger. This is the best way to be able to keep on golfing.

Improve Your Golf Game With A Back Support Girdle

May 9th, 2010 — 1:29pm

Golf is a great past time to enjoy the outdoors and since the weather is getting warmer for people in the northern climates, it’s time to brush up on that swing.

However, before you embark on a new golfing season, you have to ask yourself if during the layoff, you’re still in the proper shape to go golfing.

Now obviously, golf doesn’t require you to be the perfect athletic specimen but it is another year under the belt and as we get older, our joints get more stiff and the discs in the back get weaker. And with the repetitive movement of a golf swing, it can just aggravate the situation.

Now, this isn’t a warning that you should give up the game you love, but perhaps a little help is in order to protect your back. There are back support girdles for men that are ideal for such type of physical activity whereby it allows you to have enough movement and range of motion but it also properly supports your back at the same time.

There are numerous sports activity girdles for men on the market that are thin enough for you to wear underneath your golf shirt so no one would know of your handicap (pun intended). These girdles are pretty much designed as tight compression undershirts with moisture wicking ability so you’re not drenched in sweat. And while we also think of playing golf in nice warm weather, sometimes it gets a bit nippy during early morning tee-off times. These undershirts have thermal regulation that keeps your core muscles warm when they need to be, and cools you down when you need to be cooled.

So, for this golf season, why not try pick up a back support girdle? It might be the weapon you need to pick up your golf game.

Ladies Golf Clubs – Discover The Difference

April 19th, 2010 — 7:00pm

Are you a new lady golfer and find yourself confused by the different ladies golf clubs that are available.  In fact, you may be feeling that carrying around a sack full of clubs seems rather ridiculous.  Don’t fret, the more golfing experience you obtain, the more you will come to realize how important each of the various golf clubs are to your golf game.

Here are a few key points to understand about golf clubs that can help you improve upon your game by enabling you to select the right golf club to use in your different game shots:

1.  Iron golf clubs. In golf club sets you will find more irons that any other type of club.  A golfer uses these clubs often during a game.  Irons are often chosen to help you achieve accuracy, which can help afford you with the ability to get the ball closer to the point where you want it.  Different irons have specific uses.  Some are designed specifically to help get your ball out of that dreadful sand trap.

2.  Wood golf clubs. Ladies wood golf clubs are designed to help you achieve distance in your shot.  Because these clubs are referred to as woods many people think that the head is made of wood.  Normally wood clubs are made out of titanium or steel.  They are often used when the course route is straight and distance is important.  Accuracy is not as good with wood clubs, as with iron clubs.  It is easy to spot the wood clubs in your bag because they are longer in length.

3. Putter club. In standard ladies golf sets you will find only one putter.  You use a putter on the putting green, or for a shot that might require precise accuracy.  High in accuracy and short distance range are the criteria for using a putter. A putter is much different than other clubs because when you hit the ball it is meant to roll gently to your target hole and not fly in the air.  Do not under estimate the importance of a putter to your game.  Many people spend a lot of their practice time trying to perfect their putting skills.

Use a Golf Swing Trainer to Improve Your Handicap

March 30th, 2010 — 6:58pm

Cost is one of the major problems with the game of golf. Not only do you have to spend a fortune on decent golf clubs, balls, and tees but you also have to rent out the time on the coarse. Most good golf club memberships will easily run you a few thousand dollars every month and you might only get enough time for one or two games each week. When a game is so expensive it can be difficult to make the time for practice.

If you’re not made of money but are still interested in improving your golf game you can employ a few different tricks to get practice time on the course without spending any extra money. A golf swing trainer is probably the best trick in the practice book because you can use it on the driving range or during your regular play sessions to improve your golf swing as you play the game.

There are a few versions of golf swing trainers out there on the market right now and they all focus on different aspects of your swing. You can get some trainers that work on your speed, you can find some that work on your accuracy, and you can find some that focus on your strength. There are even a few out there (though they are a bit expensive) that help to improve all aspects of your golf swing.

All you need to do is use your golf swing trainer like you would any other club in your golf or sports bag. The more time you spend practicing your golf swing using the trainer the easier it will be to swing your real clubs. Golf swing trainers help you to develop good habits by punishing you when you stray from proper form. Practicing on the coarse using a golf swing trainer is like doubling the effect of your practice time.
